Is it a traditional looper?

Not really. Traditional loopers mostly work synchronous. Asynchronous mode allows loops to breathe and sound less repetitive.

Does it work without a computer?

Absolutely! Too many computers in our life

Can I transfer recordings to my computer?

Well, computers are here to stay, so obviously you can transfter recordings: either individually saved cues from currently mounted tape, or access internal storage directly

Does tape! have a built-in microphone?

There are two low SNR, high sensetivity MEMS microphones.

Can tape! be used as a USB audio interface?

Yes, tape! support class compliant usb audio mode, and acts as 2x2 audio interface. With parallel transmission of internal recordingss and line/mic inputs.

What is maximum record and loop time?

Based on lenght of your tape - up to 45 minutes currently

Can I load my own audio files?

Not yet! Tape storage uses contiguous file allocation, which we can guarantee during Host PC to tape! transfers. This may be added in future, but for now just enjoy making records on tape! itself ^_^

Does tape! support MIDI?

tape! supports midi learn and manual custom mappings for MIDI CC messages and have 3 different modes:

  • CUES - play saved cue marks via keyboard with per track midi controls
  • SLICE - evenly slices current loop into one octave range, also with per track midi controls
  • NOTES - 4 voice polyphonic sample with global, currently selected track controlled in omni mode
Can i plug other TYPE-C gear in tape!?

tape! works in usb device mode, so as long device you want to connect provides power and acts as usb host - it will work! we don't recommend plugging in non-usb host devices

How can I update the firmware?

Power on tape! while holding PLAY button to enter firmware update mode. Then drug and drop .img update file on "tape! boot" external drive
