Inspired by musique concrète, tape loops, phasing, sound-on-sound recording, and the work of artists like Pierre Schaeffer, Steve Reich, Delia Derbyshire, and Brian Eno, tape! is a portable four-track stereo recorder and asynchronous looper for recording, layering, and transforming sound in unpredictable ways.
With tape! we want to break free from the strict sequencer grid. Make music production raw, unpredictable and compulsively entertaining. Take advantage of happy accidents, and even if you return to structureland, bring some new textures back with you.
Treat tape! as an ongoing art project. We will continually improve and deliver interesting features and enhancements based on your feedback! Currently, more tape modes (portastudio, granular) in in the works, as well an SDK for custom user apps loadable from flash storage, and couple more surprises. Stay tuned!
